Antonio Conte, an Italian photographer, captures street scenes, architecture, and nature alike. He returns to the pages of the magazine with a new set of photographs.
“There was nothing better than exploring different styles through other artists; that’s what I have focused more on lately […]. I started experimenting, and I love the direction I have taken,” says Conte. The result of the recent artistic exploration is a dark, meditative approach to shadowplay and grain, aimed at distilling beauty from otherwise unsettling circumstances.
The photographer invites the viewers to join him on a photowalk through the city and forest paths to experience them without preconceptions. Any frame can be one worth preserving, depending on the weather, light, or state of mind. Conte’s work is not overly stylized but thoughtfully curated.
Three works of three apparently distinct styles and techniques are used to evoke the versatile range of artistic inspirations and even capabilities of the photographer himself. The dark pieces revolving around the architectural motif of the Gothic church tell the same story from three different perspectives: the gritty, stern interior; the dismal gateway leading nowhere; and the couple walking beside its austere facade, hinting at the idea that perhaps the safest place is within its walls.
