Mihai Stânceanu is a Romanian photographer who blends elements of nature, conceptual minimalism, and abstract surrealism.
Rather than adhering to a specific style, his dark, atmospheric pieces draw from a multitude of influences, using them as frameworks to create stunning monochromatic visuals.
The artist explains, “Photography feels like the most natural way of expressing myself; it brings presence, stillness, and, last but not least, healing. I don’t approach a specific niche; I mostly follow feeling and intuition, though I occasionally build upon targeted concepts.”

Stânceanu perceives his artistic endeavors as a means to soothe the subconscious. Through a powerful, unexpected bond between long-exposure and macro photography, his work evokes ethereal imagery—what he poetically describes as “an active meditation, a dance with your shadows, a touch of light, and a silent prayer.”
The stimulating quality of Stânceanu’s work stems from the modesty of his approach; he considers his work accomplished “if even a few people resonate with it, or if it brings them a specific feeling or visual experience.”

RAWGUE.’s 4th issue delved into the grey, moody, and cold atmosphere of winter. Yet it did not sink into the depths of madness or depression. Instead, it embraced this season of hibernation, allowing 31 artists from all over the world to present their timid work beneath a veil of quiet beauty.

We’re a team of writers using our craft to spotlight art in its most honest form. RAWGUE. started as a bi-monthly editorial experiment where each issue’s theme is dictated by the submitted work, thus removing editorial bias from the equation and preserving a more raw approach. We focus on all forms of poetry: written, photographed, painted, drawn, and filmed.
