From the internationally awarded Italian photographer Carmelita Iezzi, we bring the monochromatic series called “Fragments of Dreams.”

The use of vignette, softened edges, and dim light transports the viewer to the realm in-between and beyond. “These images […] evoke fragments of a dream dissolving upon waking”, Iezzi explains, “The fog erases the boundaries between earth and sky, between what is present and what is merely remembered.”

Her photographs are universal and timeless. One can easily imagine them on a Black Metal album cover, illustrating a gothic novel, or being framed on a studio apartment’s wall. There is a conjunction of grandeur and restraint, both in service to convey a serenely haunting vision.

Through this surreal series, Iezzi tells an ethereal story of the subconscious. Hidden behind an ambient, monochrome veil of incertitude and a deliberate lack of glamour, her photographs are more than just a breath of fresh air. They are brooding and unsettling in the best way possible—a successful attempt, one might say, at bringing forward a palpable sense of unthreatening, even welcoming, coldness.

The subjects become characters in an earthy folktale at the crossroads of the real and the imaginary, building a whole new dimension outside time and space. As she says, “Within this suspended landscape, the female figure moves like a lost constellation, searching for a path among trees that stand as sentinels of motionless time.”

In the end, Iezzi believes we are not merely part of nature, but one with it. This is revealed throughout the series, with the artist concluding that it “becomes an exploration of the ephemeral, where every blurred contour speaks to our fragility and the transient nature of being.”
