Cypriot photographer Alexandros Andreou finds inspiration in both nature and urban landscapes.
Driven in part by minimalistic aesthetics and high-contrast visuals, the artist tends to bring forward the immensity of existence. He does so by unraveling deeply rooted feelings of the eternal struggle between escape and claustrophobia.
There is a clarity to his vision. The images are a representation of what is in front of the photographer, without distractions around the camera: a moment in time caught still by a shutter, separated from its surroundings, to be interpreted as a complete universe of its own.
Although eager to share his portfolio, what prevails the most in his art are the clear lines defining self-isolation. The systematic illusion of fairness is conveyed either by the strict rules of correct exposure or by the conspicuous surrender to the shadows and mist.
A dynamic that only adds to the black and white simplistic and yet revealing path chosen by the photographer.
