For the second time, Italian photographer Sara Albe shares her work with RAWGUE—a new series infused with quiet shadowplay, a velvet glow, and soul-clearing vibes.
Loyal to her vision and artistic statement, light continues to play the central role in capturing the sublime, the soft, and the mysterious. Unlike the results of her work, which often translate into a depiction of beauty and tenderness through stubbornly relaxed, “go-with-the-flow” imagery, the process appears to be more stern and precise than Albe cares to reveal.
Her new photographs are diligent, focused on correctness, and express her vision exactly, leaving little room for interpretation. She continues to “capture the soul” of her model, as she says, rather than the physical form. Through a mix of vintage backdrops, shimmering flowy dresses, and Renaissance-like visuals, Albe continues to describe to us through photography what fifteenth-century painters aimed to express through sfumato—intensity and depth.

Albe is a storyteller. The tales she creates with her photographs are focused on the ethereal beauty of feminine strength. Vulnerability requires courage just as light requires shadow. Albe’s portraits are like solar eclipses, displaying and covering, hiding and exposing, playing with softness and darkness.
The results are digital paintings, drawing from the chiaroscuro of the great masters of yore. With her dreamy frames, she invites us to think about Juliets, Hildegards, and Iseults, the ladies in distress and the enthroned heroines. Albe approaches her work from the place of magic within, and she succeeds in enchanting the viewers and her subjects alike.
Read our “Roots” issue in full
The new theme, born as usual from what the submitted works held in common, is “ROOTS.” Within its pages, we present the artworks, creativity, and inspiration of 60 visual artists and writers from 21 countries around the world. Their diverse voices come together around a shared exploration of the return to where one belongs, the invisible threads of tradition that shape identity, and the ongoing reconnection with nature, others, and oneself.

We’re a team of writers using our craft to spotlight art in its most honest form. RAWGUE. started as a bi-monthly editorial experiment where each issue’s theme is dictated by the submitted work, thus removing editorial bias from the equation and preserving a more raw approach. We focus on all forms of poetry: written, photographed, painted, drawn, and filmed.
