“There are rainbows shining in my darkness,” says the Greece-born photographer who creates under the alias Lemon. She creates multilayered, transformative dreamscapes that evade definition.

The artist’s portfolio is poetic and elusive, like remnants of a dream that we try to hold onto when first rays of sunshine hit the window. Rainbows appear like aurora borealis, illuminating the midst of inner night. This symbol of hope and promise shines through the contemplative, anxious part of Lemon’s works.

Her photographic techniques vary constantly—vibrant, breathing, and pulsating with life—without allowing the viewer to pinpoint a particular style. Her portfolio feels more like a fertile, progressive, and ever-expanding universe; the closer one believes they are getting to the center, the larger the universe exponentially becomes.

Mixing various approaches, from overlaid imagery, monochrome, and digital collage to minimalistic, conceptual, atmospheric, and at times esoteric styles, Lemon’s work is a hyper-fluid, mercury-like, and subliminal collection of reveries, seemingly torn from the script of Gaspar Noé’s ‘Enter the Void.’ From this perspective, the artist transcends physical existence by becoming an entity in whose subconscious a world is constantly growing.

The 31 artists featured in RAWGUE. Magazine’s 5th issue stray from the expected, taking untrodden paths, contemplating imperfection, solitude in its many forms, and the ongoing process of self-acceptance. Through shifting perspectives, their works explore what it means to look at oneself from the outside, as if through broken glass.
