L.W. Russell is an American photographer who captures the meditative rhythm of nature. Trees, skies, and still water take center stage in calm, striking images, each a soft reminder of the life happening all around us.
The author turns the lens toward the quiet clarity of nature, inviting us to slow down and find life in stillness. Russell’s photography is, on one side, a form of elements’ dissection. Water, sky, and earth become highlighted and isolated from the background. On another, the photographer simultaneously becomes an acolyte of nature, praising it for its life-giving property, and a funnel through which nature speaks to the viewers.
As Russell fairly explains, “It just takes someone’s present observation to notice, harness it, and express it to others. The true beauty is that this expression can be so many different things and be interpreted in a multitude of ways.”

A deeper, stronger sense of community and initiative is at the root of it. A domino effect of sorts. L.W. Russell hopes that the art can enable the viewers to not only appreciate life but also to become active participants in it, and moreover, empower others to do the same on their own.

In this debut issue, 16 artists from around the world took part in an editorial experiment where the theme emerged organically from the submitted artworks, shaped by what they had in common, and not predefined by editors.

We’re a team of writers using our craft to spotlight art in its most honest form. RAWGUE. started as a bi-monthly editorial experiment where each issue’s theme is dictated by the submitted work, thus removing editorial bias from the equation and preserving a more raw approach. We focus on all forms of poetry: written, photographed, painted, drawn, and filmed.
