From Slovakia, Dorota Sokolova draws dreamlike scenes laced with myth, symbolism, and surreal detail. These works feel like wandering through someone else’s dreamscape: intricate, unpredictable, and full of strange beauty.
Dorota’s love for art is expressed bluntly through powerful lines and patterns. The Tim Burton-esque naïve art pieces depict nightmare-like sceneries, which could easily be considered caricature representations of hell.
The artist unleashes hypnagogic imagery without a warning, throwing the viewer right in the middle of the Rorschach test-like scenes of perfectly balanced chaos.

If mathematics is the language of the universe, Dorota attempts to strip it to the bones of all the grammar and lexicon and leave only the bare core, free to roam and to be appreciated.

In this debut issue, 16 artists from around the world took part in an editorial experiment where the theme emerged organically from the submitted artworks, shaped by what they had in common, and not predefined by editors.

We’re a team of writers using our craft to spotlight art in its most honest form. RAWGUE. started as a bi-monthly editorial experiment where each issue’s theme is dictated by the submitted work, thus removing editorial bias from the equation and preserving a more raw approach. We focus on all forms of poetry: written, photographed, painted, drawn, and filmed.
